Safe Wild (2011)
Safe Wild is a travel journal from a solitary walk I made in 2011 for eight days, following a tradition of hiking on the Royal trail in the Nordic Mountains that dates back to the early 20th century. It is a reflection of the experience of being and walking in a somewhat untouched landscape, far away from communication means and modern life. The imagery of the landscape is accompanied by anonymous portraits of the people I met and passed by during the journey.
The Royal trail goes through a land that is disappearing as modern life is closing in on the reserve’s border, the hiker’s huts on the trail are getting more and more modernized. People no longer adapt to the conditions and terms of nature, they want to have nature as part of a modern life, to the cost of the beauty of an isolated and untouched landscape.
